This could be an interesting mechanism. Turn the handle and the pyramid opens revealing the All Seeing Eye. The eye rotates ninety degrees then drops back into place. There are a few different ways of doing this but it will need a bit of experimenting.

Tongue only slightly in cheek, but might I suggest combining your segment display project with your Eye of Horus project? The ancient Egyptians used the segmented eye of Horus to denote fractional volumes of the heqat (about 4.785 litres). Search "heqat" and have a look!
