This is a fun mechanism. I like some of the ideas that people left in the last post about it. I've completed it as a hammerbot but expect to see it used in the future. Perhaps as a caveman / mammoth model.

I reckon I could link an object being hammers to the crank so that it dodged out of the way at the last moment. All sorts of possibilities!

Colour next.

it looks like a carnival game like the whack a mole game where you try to hit the mechanical moles as they pop out of the hole or   the strong man hammer  game where you swing the hammer and hit a target and if you hit the target   hard enough it rings the bell.

there is a you tube video of a wooden automata  model called animals hide from hunter the hunter turns around and when he faces the animals there all hiding and when he turns away the animals pop out maybe it can give you some ideas of how to make the mammoth or whatever object avoid the hammer here is a link to the you tube video of the model

I live near Seattle, Washington, USA. This Hammerbot reminds me of the sculpture we have in front of the Seattle Art Museum. Check out the Youtube movie - "Hammering Man: Seattle Art Museum." (I have always considered the action to be backwards because the arm raises quickly and descends slowly. Shouldn't it be the other way around?)

Youtube posted by Cool is good but it moves a bit too fast. A wonderful work thought but if it had a few pauses or delays or cunctations it would have been better, that is, without monotony. Hunter should be pausing for a few moments at least in one direction to figure what is going on and why is he not finding anything - not just rotate. Youtube posted by Pooka is also very nice but it moves a bit too slow so it seems Rob's would be just perfect and would overcome both the shortcomings.

Congratulations.
