Some time back I made a Dodo model for the website. I’ve developed new paper engineering techniques since then so I’ve decided to revisit the model and at the same time make a dual version for scissors or paper cutting machine. For the first prototype I’ve used the original bird, but reduced in size slightly. For the mechanism I’ve used a modified version of the crank/cam Essential Mechanism.
The crank/cam uses coins as weights to pull up the wings.
As the coins are relatively light, all the parts need to move freely. At the moment the ends of the wing levers are just touching the main push rod. In the next version, I’ll change the geometry slightly and the wings should have a better movement.
