A two axis joint to download and make. Originally designed to be a hip/body joint for a forthcoming poseable model the mechanism, which bends both side to side as well as up and down, could find a range of different uses. Members can download the parts for free and play along at home.
Print the parts out onto thin card (230 micron / 230 gsm) score the dotted lines and cut out the holes before carefully cutting out the parts.
Flip up the small tabs as shown before assembling the centre block.
Glue together the two arms as shown above.
Fit one of the arms over the tabs then fold the tabs down flat.
Dab glue to the tabs with a cocktail stick. Make sure that the glue doesn't get on to the arm.
Press a cover into place onto the tabs.
Repeat the process with the other arm.
Done! With the glue dry, the arms should be free to move left and right as well as up and down. Watch out for this mechanism in future projects!
