Essential Mechanisms are a regular feature on this website. Each Essential Mechanism is a project in its own right which is designed to use paper engineering to perform one or more movements. These projects can then be used as starting point for your own character based automata. Use the pure mechanism to bring your own creations to life!
The spinner uses air from paper bellows to make the paper turbine spin fast. Once complete you can extend the model however you like, for example, add a pirouetting dancer to the top of the disk, or a cat chasing a dog, of a bee circling a flower or a spaceship orbiting a planet! Download and make the spinner project and see what you can come up with.
The project comes as a pdf file with all the parts and instructions ready for you to print out and make. Members can download the file for free by adding to the cart and checking out. Non members can join in the fun for £5 or equivalentÂ
