It was a toss-up between paper and laser-cut ply, in the end, I opted for the wood option as the result will be more long-lasting.

The next step – Check out the work of Martin Smith for the inspiration for the hand movement. Rather than using the crank and slider that Martin uses I’ll add a drive mechanism using a scotch yoke. Turn the crank and the yoke will push the central pushrod up and down.
