Last week I sketched out the idea for a model based around one of the Essential Mechanisms available on this site. You can see the sketch on my Instagram feed here. Today I have been making a working prototype.

The main mechanism used is a crank slider. Turn the handle and crank lifts the car in a circle so that it bobs up and down, back and forth. By fixing the legs top and bottom it appears that it is actually the legs moving the car.

Front view of the crank. In the next version I will be slightly decreasing the throw of the crank so that the car doesn’t dip down quite as far.

Not bad for a first draft though 🙂
