A few years back I spent quite a bit of time putting together an online resource showing how various mechanisms work. It consisted of several Adobe Flash animations and explanatory text. Unfortunately, Flash is no longer considered secure for web use so I haven’t added anything to it for a while. The original mechanism page is here… you’ll need to activate the Flash plug-in to try it.
I’m planning to redo the mechanisms but this time I thought I would use actual video of paper models. My plan is to make a series of stripped-down mechanisms, video them and make a downloadable version for each mechanism.
Here’s the first draft for a cam mechanism. What do you think? Would they be useable in a classroom envinoment? Which format would be best? A gif? An mp4? An Instagram video?
