I’ve had some success with paper worm gears in the past but the limitation has always been that the worm itself flexes under use. Like this.

To make the worm stronger I have rebuilt it as a double layer. I’ve separated the layers by 5mm at the base…

Then joined them together at the top so that the worm itself has a strong triangular cross-section.

The result is a lot more substantial…

It meshes nicely with the ten tooth gear.

Next step – I’ll mount these parts into a box and release it as a download so you can try it out.
